Virginia Circuit Court - courts.state.va.us
The circuit court handles most civil cases with claims of more than $25,000. It shares authority with the general district court to hear matters involving claims between $4,500 and $25,000, and in civil cases for personal injury and wrongful death up to $50,000. The circuit court has the authority to hear serious criminal cases called felonies.

District Court held at Montgomery County Courthouse (prior to 1792) or Washington County Courthouse (after 1792) heard cases originating in the counties of: Montgomery, Russell, and Washington. District Court held at New London (prior to 1800) or Franklin County Courthouse (after1800) heard cases originating in the counties of: Bedford, Campbell, Franklin, Henry, and Pittsylvania.
